The INTERCEPT Technology is also part of the rail industry. Locomotives around the world operate on a metal based technology. The various parts inside locomotives consisting of gears and other transmission parts are mainly made of metals. These parts need often to be replaced or serviced. In order to provide a proper maintenance these parts have to be transported or stored on site for the purpose of maintenance or for emergency repairs. To guarantee proper function and longevity after replacements pasts must be protected from corrosion during storage and transportation so that locomotives can be operated safely.

An application of Intercept deals with the export of gear boxes for locomotives to Europe. The parts also need to be stored in a maintenance yard in Europe. Prior to Intercept during transport and storage the gear boxes became corroded. The current facility in Europe had no blasting shed. Therefore gearboxes would require further logistics to a tertiary business for blasting works and painting prior to maintenance, increasing costs and causing time delays.

Items now are packed with Intercept Shrink Film with a second UV layer for robust transport incorporating the INTERCEPT Technology to prevent corrosion. By implementing Intercept the tertiary business is no longer required. The items can be repaired immediately and sent back into service.
